Types Of Pipe Tobacco

In recent years, the smoking of pipe tobacco has become a trend. The types of tobacco available have skyrocketed with more and more people taking part in this trend. Following are some of the examples of the varieties of tobacco available.

Virginian: The state of Virginia is the largest producer of tobacco in America. Virginia tobaccos are a bit more on the sweet side and are believed to have a fruit like taste. They are clean smoking and are relatively mild.

Burley: Burley tobacco, mostly used in blend tobacco, is one of the most popular in US. It is air cured for several months and blended with sugary tones for creating sweetened tobaccos. When you smoke cased barley it has a slightly nutty taste to it. It smokes with a full caramel-like rich flavor with a taste reminiscent of a granola bar.

Spiced Tobacco: Spiced tobaccos are made from a blend of several tobaccos and have become very popular in recent years. Most of the spiced tobaccos are based on English blends which do not contain any added flavoring of any kind.

Turkish/Oriental Tobaccos: The tobaccos from countries like Cyprus, Greece and Turkey are softly spicy. The leaves of this pipe tobacco take on a golden brown tone when they are sun cured. They are mildly sweet with slightly verging on spicier notes and have a sugary tone to them.

Perique Tobacco: It is a slow burning tobacco which is usually grown in Louisiana. This type of tobacco is slightly more costly than most other types of tobaccos. It is richly aromatic and has reasonably strong taste to it. This tobacco is grown in smaller quantities and this increases the price of the product to make it more costly. The tobacco is naturally fermented and has a more leathery texture. It is blackish in color and has a very pungent aroma to it.

The afore mentioned exhaustive types of tobacco is the basis for many specialty blends; spicier fruitier tones are mixed with strong deep aromas for balancing each other out. To bring out the deeper nuances in the tone, single richer tones are blended with a lighter tasting tone. Making a famed tobacco requires blending layers of notes. Some of the pipe smokers opt for very basic tobaccos with no flavor while others smoke on rare occasions and choose the luxury of a sweet tasting tobacco or a nutty taste. The choice of different types of tobacco is dependent upon the individual pipe smokers and is very subjective.

Irrespective of the choice of favorite pipe tobacco, there are chances that it will be just one of many that are tried.  It is only through experimentation you can determine a true favorite tobacco.
